A large crocodile suddenly reached the main road near the dam in Bharra village of the Kailaras area of Morena on Tuesday night, bringing traffic to a halt for around 30 minutes. The crocodile climbed onto the culvert across the road and sat in the middle of the route, triggering panic among passersby and residents.

As soon as people noticed the crocodile, drivers stopped their vehicles and kept their distance. A queue of vehicles soon formed on the road, and traffic remained affected for nearly half an hour. The incident took place near the Bharra Dam, where the crocodile had come out from the dam area and reached the main road.

The incident is reported to have occurred at around 9 pm. At that time, security guards of former Joura MLA and BJP leader Subedar Singh Sikarwar were travelling towards their village. When they saw the crocodile sitting on the culvert, they made a video of it.

After the video emerged, news of the crocodile spread across the area. The Forest Department was also informed about the animal’s presence on the road.

Drivers and villagers stood at a distance after seeing the crocodile sitting in the middle of the route. The animal remained on the culvert for about 30 minutes. It later returned to the dam on its own. Fortunately, no untoward incident took place during the time it remained on the road.

The crocodile’s arrival from the dam to the main road has increased concern among people living in nearby villages. Agricultural work is currently under way in the fields, and villagers frequently travel around the dam and waterlogged areas.

Because of this regular movement, residents fear that more crocodiles could be present in the area. Villagers have asked the Forest Department to increase monitoring at the dam and in nearby locations. They have also demanded that officials find out about the presence of aquatic animals in the surrounding areas.

Shyam Singh Chauhan, Deori superintendent of the Forest Department, said that information had been received about a crocodile reaching the road at night. After receiving the information, the departmental team was sent to the spot.

The Forest Department is taking action to rescue the crocodile and release it at a safe place, he said. According to Chauhan, during the rainy season, the flow of water in rivers and reservoirs becomes strong on several occasions. As a result, aquatic animals sometimes leave their usual areas and reach other locations.

He added that even after the rainy season ends, the Forest Department’s monitoring and rescue operations in such cases continue.

The presence of the crocodile on the road for 30 minutes created both curiosity and fear across the area. While people gathered at a distance to watch the animal, traffic remained stopped until the crocodile moved back towards the dam.
