CM calls for change in crop cultivation strategies to suit El Nino conditions

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a revamp of crop cultivation strategies to tackle challenges arising from El Nino conditions. Speaking at a high-level review meeting on agriculture, horticulture, and aqua sectors at the Secretariat on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the CM emphasized the need to guide farmers towards sustainable practices and crop diversification.

Highlighting the impact of changing climatic patterns, Mr. Naidu urged officials to promote natural farming on a large scale and assist farmers in transitioning to agricultural, commercial, and horticultural crops better suited to current conditions. He also underlined the importance of aligning with global standards for seed and produce certification to boost competitiveness in international markets.

The Chief Minister pointed out specific issues faced by farmers cultivating crops like chilli, tobacco, and mangoes, particularly the Totapuri variety, and stressed the need for scientific farming techniques to address these challenges. He directed officials to focus on promoting the cultivation of pulses, which are in high demand, as a means to improve farmers’ incomes. Additionally, he instructed the agriculture department to hold discussions with aqua farmers and feed manufacturers to resolve sector-specific concerns.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, and other senior officials. The CM’s directives aim to equip farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to adapt to evolving environmental and market conditions, ensuring long-term sustainability and profitability in the state’s agriculture sector.
