The deceased has been identified as Prashant, a resident of near Lakshmibai Tiraha in Sadar Kotwali area. His body was retrieved from the river approximately 25 hours after he leapt into the water.
According to information, Prashant had jumped into the Yamuna river following a dispute with a young woman. It is alleged that the youth first threw his motorcycle into the woman's office before taking the plunge into the river.
Police were informed and reached the spot. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Sadar Kotwali police station. Shiv Prasad Yadav of B.N.P.A.C provided a statement in the matter.
The case is being investigated by the local police authorities in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh.
