Bahraich Police arrests seven cyber criminals under Gangster Act in crackdown

Bahraich Police has arrested seven hardened cyber criminals under the Gangster Act as part of Operation CyVajra, a state-wide campaign against cyber crime launched by the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests represent a major breakthrough in the district's efforts to curb organised cyber fraud.

The seven arrested accused are among a total of 13 cyber criminals against whom proceedings under the Gangster Act have been initiated by Bahraich Police. The operation was carried out under the direct instructions of Superintendent of Police, Bahraich, Vishwajeet Srivastava, who has been leading the district's campaign to impose effective checks on cyber crime and cyber criminals.

The arrests took place on 10.09.2026, when joint police teams from various police stations of the district apprehended the wanted accused following meticulous investigation and action based on the activities of the accused and available documentary evidence. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh and Additional Superintendent of Police Durga Prasad Tiwari, and under the guidance of Circle Officer (City) Narayan Datt Mishra.

The seven arrested individuals are Mohammad Aamir son of Mahfooz Khan, approximately 26 years of age, resident of Chandpura under Kotwali Nagar police station in Bahraich district; Ramji Yadav son of Ram Muratilal Yadav, approximately 35 years of age, resident of Bashirganj locality under Kotwali Nagar police station in Bahraich district; Saurabh Mishra son of Anand Mishra, approximately 20 years of age, resident of Chhoti Bazaar under Kotwali Nagar police station in Bahraich district; Faheem son of Sakir Ali, approximately 28 years of age, resident of Nazirpura Nai Basti under Kotwali Nagar police station in Bahraich district; Sahil Beg son of Vakil Beg, approximately 23 years of age, resident of village Parshuraampur under Fakhrapur police station in Bahraich district; Satyendra Kumar Chauhan son of Harishchand, resident of Maluha Bhakurha under Matera police station in Bahraich district; and Santosh Singh son of Ranvir Singh, resident of Tendwa Basantpur under Kotwali Dehat police station in Bahraich district.

All seven arrested accused were sent to the honourable court in Bahraich for further legal proceedings in accordance with lawful process.

The crackdown is part of Operation CyVajra being conducted by the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna. Under this campaign, Bahraich district police have been taking strict and swift action on complaints related to cyber fraud, registering cases at various police stations and sending cyber criminals to jail in judicial custody.

The police identified a total of 13 cyber criminals in the district who formed organised gangs and conspiratorially committed cyber fraud by obtaining information about bank accounts and ATM details of vulnerable and unemployed persons as well as acquaintances for financial gain. These criminals were found to be habitual offenders of cyber crime. Against these 13 cyber criminals, gang charts were prepared as per rules and after approval from the District Magistrate, Bahraich, a case numbered 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act was registered at Dargah Sharif police station.

During the investigation of the case registered under the Gangster Act, joint police teams constituted from different police stations carried out action as per rules on the basis of the activities of the accused and available documentary evidence, leading to the arrest of the seven wanted cyber accused.

The case registered in connection with this major operation is case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Each of the seven arrested accused has a detailed criminal history involving multiple cyber fraud cases. Accused Mohammad Aamir son of Mahfooz Khan has three cases registered against him: case number 324/2026 under Sections 61(2)/318(4)/308(5)/351(3)/191(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Dargah Sharif police station in Bahraich; case number 02/2026 under Sections 318(4)/308(2)/351(3)/352/61(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Cyber Crime police station in Bahraich district; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Ramji Yadav son of Ram Muratilal Yadav has two cases: case number 02/2026 under Sections 318(4)/308(2)/351(3)/352/61(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Cyber Crime police station in Bahraich district; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Saurabh Mishra son of Anand Mishra has two cases registered: case number 295/2026 under Sections 308(5)/318(4) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Motipur police station in Bahraich district; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Faheem son of Sakir Ali has two cases against him: case number 324/2026 under Sections 61(2)/318(4)/308(5)/351(3)/191(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Dargah Sharif police station in Bahraich; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Sahil Beg son of Vakil Beg also has two cases: case number 324/2026 under Sections 61(2)/318(4)/308(5)/351(3)/191(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Dargah Sharif police station in Bahraich; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Satyendra Kumar Chauhan son of Harishchand has two cases registered: case number 02/2026 under Sections 318(4)/308(2)/351(3)/352/61(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Cyber Crime police station in Bahraich district; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

Accused Santosh Singh son of Ranvir Singh has two cases against him: case number 324/2026 under Sections 61(2)/318(4)/308(5)/351(3)/191(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the IT Act at Dargah Sharif police station in Bahraich; and case number 406/2026 under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Dargah Sharif police station.

The successful arrest operation was executed by a 13-member joint police team comprising officers and personnel from multiple police stations across Bahraich district. The team was led by Inspector-in-Charge Vijendra Kumar Mishra of Kotwali Nagar police station, Bahraich. The team also included Sub-Inspector Jayram Yadav from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Head Constable Shivam Kanaujia from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Head Constable Ravi Kumar Yadav from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Head Constable Dhirendra Kumar from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Head Constable Jitendra Yadav from Matera police station in Bahraich district; Head Constable Abhay Pandey from Kotwali Dehat in Bahraich district; Head Constable Jai Prakash Yadav from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Constable Aditya from Kotwali Nagar, Bahraich; Head Constable driver Rameshwar Tiwari with government vehicle driver Sumo; Constable Vipul Yadav from Kotwali Dehat police station in Bahraich district; Constable Sunil Mishra from Matera police station in Bahraich district; and Constable Arvind Verma from Matera police station in Bahraich district.

The operation demonstrates the coordinated effort by Bahraich Police to dismantle organised cyber crime networks operating in the district. The use of the Gangster Act against cyber criminals signals the police's determination to invoke stringent legal provisions against those who habitually engage in cyber fraud and form organised gangs to exploit vulnerable citizens.
