Muzaffarnagar Cyber Crime Police Station has taken action against the growing ‘BOSS SCAM’ and so far prevented seven major cyber fraud incidents from taking place. According to the police, awareness efforts and prompt action helped stop around 5 crore rupees from reaching the hands of cybercriminals.
The police said that 1.25 crore rupees available in four bank accounts has also been placed on hold or frozen. The action was taken in cases linked to the ‘BOSS SCAM’, in which cyber fraudsters use the name of a senior officer, owner, director or management to issue instructions for immediate payment or a bank transfer.
During October, the Cyber Police has been creating awareness under the National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Traders, companies, hotels, firm operators and accountants are being informed about the BOSS SCAM, digital fraud, phishing, fake APKs and digital arrest, along with other forms of cybercrime.
According to the police, Cyber Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Karmveer Singh and his team acted in time in such cases by maintaining alertness and using technical analysis. The police said that timely verification and quick action helped prevent the suspected fraud attempts from turning into financial losses.
The police have appealed to people not to make any payment based on financial instructions received in the name of an officer or the management without independently verifying them. People have also been advised to immediately report any cyber fraud or attempt at cyber fraud by calling 1930.
