Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Scam: SIT Formed, ₹2 Crore Recovered

The investigation Ayodhya Ram Mandir donation theft case has gained momentum, prompting the government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday. The SIT is expected to reach Ayodhya by Sunday night. Three days earlier, the central government deployed an IPS officer to oversee a confidential investigation into the case. So far, ₹2 crore has been recovered based on the information provided by five accused individuals: Lavkush, Avnish, Anukalp, Karune, and Ramashankar. Lavkush and Anukalp are currently in police custody.

Vinay Katiyar, a BJP leader associated with the Ram Mandir movement, commented on Saturday, calling the accused "thieves" and demanding their arrest. Meanwhile, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad has called for the removal of trust officials accused in the case until the investigation concludes. He also suggested dissolving the current committee and forming a new one under Supreme Court supervision.

The SIT comprises three officials: Vijay Vishwas Pant (IAS), Kiran S. (IPS), and Neelratan (Special Secretary, Finance). Vijay Vishwas Pant, an IIT Kanpur graduate, will lead the SIT, focusing on donation management. Kiran S., with extensive experience in criminal investigations, will delve into the theft allegations.

The Ram Mandir construction committee chairman, Nripendra Mishra, confirmed the SIT formation and stated that the team would submit a preliminary report within a week and a final report in 15 days. He also shared updates on the temple's security and beautification projects, including a 4-km boundary wall and 25 watchtowers, targeted for completion by August 2026.
