Aligarh police detain 224 for public drinking in massive crackdown

The Aligarh police have conducted a massive crackdown targeting individuals consuming alcohol in public spaces across the district, with the Senior Superintendent of Police personally leading surprise inspections in plain clothes. The operation saw action at multiple locations including Jwalapuri and Surendra Nagar in the Quarsi police station area, as well as sites under the Mahuakheda police station jurisdiction.

During the sweeping campaign, police teams fanned out to 99 locations across Aligarh district and checked a total of 1,065 suspicious persons. The operation resulted in the detention of 224 individuals who were found violating public drinking norms, with legal proceedings initiated against them as per regulations. Authorities also seized eight vehicles during the drive, including one four-wheeler and seven motorcycles, as part of the enforcement action.

The SSP's decision to personally oversee the operation in plainclothes underscores the seriousness with which the police are treating the issue of public drinking in the district. Such surprise inspections, led from the top, are aimed at sending a strong message about zero tolerance for violations of public order and decency norms.

Public consumption of alcohol has been a persistent concern in many Indian cities and towns, often leading to complaints about anti-social behavior and public nuisance. The Aligarh police's coordinated action across nearly 100 locations simultaneously demonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing the problem.
