Agra teacher terminated after eight years of unauthorized absence without response

The Basic Education Department in Agra has terminated the services of an assistant teacher who remained absent from school for nearly eight years without any information, marking a major action against prolonged unauthorized absence.

The case pertains to assistant teacher Somveer Singh, who was posted at Mukhbar Composite School in Etmadpur block. According to the departmental order, Somveer Singh had been continuously absent from the school without intimation since 7 May 2018. Despite his prolonged absence, the department had issued him several notices over the period.

The order stated that the teacher had previously been served a notice for termination of service and was given an opportunity to present his side, but no response or written representation was submitted by the teacher within the stipulated time. Even after that, the absence continued.

Somveer Singh was also found absent from school on 4 July 2026 during an inspection by the Chief Development Officer, Agra. Following this, action in the case was intensified. The department published a final notice in the newspaper, giving the teacher another opportunity to present his side, but according to the department, no response was received.

The order issued by the District Basic Education Officer, Agra, stated that remaining continuously absent without information and defying departmental orders is conduct contrary to the government service rules. On this basis, an order has been issued terminating the services of Somveer Singh with effect from 7 May 2018, the date from which he remained absent from the school.

Following this action by the Basic Education Department, the matter concerning the teacher who had been absent for a long time has become a topic of discussion. The department has also issued instructions for necessary action while informing the concerned officials about the order.
