5 Dead in UP Due to Storms and Lightning; Pre-Monsoon Active in 9 States

Pre-monsoon activity has been reported in 9 states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Rainfall occurred in several regions, with Jaipur and other districts in Rajasthan experiencing showers on Saturday. In Madhya Pradesh, rain was recorded in Bhopal and three other districts, while a tree fell on an ambulance in Itarsi due to strong winds.

In Uttar Pradesh, storms and lightning caused 5 fatalities. Two people lost their lives in Unnao and Ghazipur due to lightning strikes. In Kasganj, a house roof collapsed during a storm, killing a couple and their daughter. Additionally, heavy rainfall led to waterlogging at Pratapgarh Medical College.

In Rajasthan's Churu district, a house wall collapsed during a storm, trapping four family members under the debris. Local residents initiated rescue efforts and transported the injured to a hospital.

The monsoon has entered parts of Jharkhand and Odisha and is expected to reach Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh within the next three days. Since its arrival in Kerala on June 4, the monsoon has spread to 19 states.

Meanwhile, heatwave conditions persist in 8 states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The highest temperature was recorded in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, at 42.4°C, followed by Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh at 42°C, Bhavnagar in Gujarat at 41.9°C, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan at 40.8°C.

The India Meteorological Department predicts rainfall in several parts of northwest India until June 19 due to an active western disturbance.
