Youth electrocuted by low-hanging wire in Amethi, sparks protests

A young man was found dead in bushes alongside a road in Amethi, sparking allegations of negligence against the electricity department and prompting angry protests by family members and local residents.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the body lying in roadside bushes near Kherouna on the Amethi bypass in the Amethi Kotwali area. Officers took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Enraged family members, joined by other locals, took to the streets in protest against the electricity department. They accused the department of negligence that they say led to the youth's death. According to the allegations, an electric wire was hanging at a height of merely 5-6 feet from the ground, and the young man died after coming into contact with it.

Police teams that reached the spot worked to pacify the angry relatives and managed to bring the situation under control through persuasion. Officers appealed to the family to cooperate with the departmental investigation, and the relatives eventually agreed to do so. The incident occurred near the Kherouna area on the Amethi bypass within the jurisdiction of Amethi Kotwali police station.
