Young man's suicide after in-law abuse sparks police inaction complaint in Kanpur

A tragic suicide case has emerged from Kanpur Dehat district where a young man allegedly took his own life after sustained harassment and physical abuse by his in-laws. The deceased's father has now approached the Superintendent of Police demanding strict legal action against the accused family members.

Kishan, son of complainant Rajaram, had married Prachi, daughter of Vijay from Akbarpur town, approximately four years ago. According to the complaint filed with police, Prachi regularly quarreled with her husband and allegedly instigated her family members to physically assault him. The complaint further alleges that Kishan was subjected to continuous mental torture by his wife's family.

The incident came to a head on the evening of August 16, 2026, around 7:30 pm when Rajaram reportedly heard loud noises. Upon reaching the spot, he allegedly found his son being beaten by Prachi, her father Vijay, mother Seema, and brother Bandi, who were also threatening to kill him. Despite efforts by Rajaram and others to rescue Kishan, the young man later committed suicide, unable to bear the relentless harassment and violence.

The family has accused the Akbarpur police station of inaction, stating that despite submitting a complaint on August 17, 2026, no effective steps have been taken so far. The deceased's father has now escalated the matter to the district Superintendent of Police, demanding an impartial investigation and registration of an FIR under relevant sections against the accused.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of Akbarpur Kotwali police station in Kanpur Dehat district. The matter highlights concerns about domestic violence and dowry-related harassment that continue to plague rural and semi-urban areas across Uttar Pradesh.
