Wheelchair gives eight-year-old disabled child chance to rejoin society, school

An eight-year-old child disabled in both legs has received a wheelchair from the Indian Red Cross Society Ghaziabad in an effort to strengthen disability empowerment in the district. The wheelchair was handed over by Ravindra Kumar Maandad, District Magistrate Ghaziabad and President of Red Cross Ghaziabad, at the District Magistrate's office.

The child, Krishna, has been confined to his home because of his disability. His mother works in households doing utensil cleaning and sweeping work to support the family. Because of her work commitments, Krishna's elder sister has been forced to stay at home to look after him. As a result, the sister's education has been disrupted and she has not been able to continue her studies.

The District Magistrate held a detailed conversation with the beneficiary's family during the wheelchair distribution ceremony. He counselled them on integrating the disabled child into the mainstream of society. The District Magistrate also emphasised the importance of education and explained the responsibility of self-reliance, particularly stressing the need to ensure that Krishna's sister is able to resume her education.

Like previous service programmes organised by Red Cross Ghaziabad, this initiative was also sponsored by Subhash Gupta, the outgoing President of Red Cross Ghaziabad. Several officials were present at the event to boost the morale of the family, including Vice President Dr. Sachin Vaishya CMO, Rakesh Gupta, M. C. Gaud, and the child's coach Rajni Dondiyal.

The District Magistrate presented a box of dry fruits to the children. The beneficiary's family repeatedly expressed gratitude to the Red Cross for their support.
