Village demands paved road after seven decades without basic connectivity

Residents of Jalim Singh Majra in Jyona village under Raibareli's Maharajganj development block staged a strong protest today, demanding a paved road for their village. Aggrieved by decades of neglect, the villagers raised slogans of "No road, no vote," warning the administration of an election boycott if their demands are not met.

The villagers claim that even after more than seven decades of independence, their village has never been provided with a proper paved road. They accuse the village head of gross negligence in carrying out development work and say that despite repeated complaints, no attention has been paid to road construction. The anger has now spilled onto the streets, with residents united in their protest against what they call basic infrastructure deprivation.

The lack of a proper road has caused severe hardship, especially during the monsoon season. Villagers say that mud and waterlogging on the unpaved paths make movement extremely difficult for patients, schoolchildren, and elderly residents. In several instances, sick people have had to be carried on cots to the main road because no vehicle can enter the village. The absence of connectivity has effectively cut off the hamlet from emergency medical services and routine transport.

The protesters have now issued an ultimatum to the district administration, demanding immediate construction of a paved road. They have made it clear that if the authorities continue to ignore their plight, they will be forced to boycott the upcoming elections. The demonstration reflects mounting frustration in rural pockets where basic amenities remain a distant dream despite numerous government schemes aimed at rural development.
