Vietnam partners with Denmark to propel its wind energy ambition
Vietnam and Denmark have signed a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes cooperation on offshore wind energy.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday during the three-day state visit of Vietnamese President To Lam to Denmark.
As part of the cooperation, Vietnamese state-owned energy group Petrovietnam signed an agreement with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to build the South Central Region 1 offshore wind project.
The project has a planned capacity of 1,000MW and forms part of Vietnam’s electricity generation plan.
The two countries will develop the offshore wind project in line with Vietnam’s goal of increasing renewable electricity generation.
Engineering talent and wind resources
Analysts say Vietnam is well placed to expand its renewable electricity sector.
They point to the country’s large pool of engineering talent and abundant wind resources as factors that could support this growth.
Denmark’s involvement adds experience from a country described by analysts as a global leader in wind energy.
The partnership therefore connects Vietnam’s renewable electricity ambitions with Danish cooperation in offshore wind development.
