Uttar Pradesh farmers protest against power cuts and land irregularities in Amethi

Farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) in Uttar Pradesh staged a forceful demonstration against the electricity department on Monday near the Fursatganj power house in Tiloi tahsil of Amethi district. The protest was held under the leadership of district president Nafees Chandel to oppose arbitrary actions by the power department and unannounced electricity cuts plaguing the area.

A large number of farmer leaders from across the Tiloi tahsil area participated in the sit-in demonstration. The farmers have alleged that the region is facing continuous unannounced power cuts, which are severely affecting the daily lives of both farmers and the general public. Cultivators are particularly troubled by persistent low voltage issues and frequent tripping problems that disrupt agricultural operations and household activities.

District president Nafees Chandel raised an additional concern during the protest, stating that large-scale irregularities are taking place in the name of converting non-transferable land into transferable land within Tiloi tahsil. He demanded that such practices be stopped immediately.

Upon receiving information about the demonstration, Sub-Divisional Officer of the electricity department Chandan Yadav and Naib Tehsildar of Tiloi Ameesha Yadav arrived at the spot. The farmers handed over a memorandum outlining their demands to both officials.

The memorandum pressed for uninterrupted power supply to be ensured in the area, replacement of dilapidated wires and transformers that are causing technical problems, and correction of bogus electricity bills that have been imposed on farmers.

The officials present at the site listened seriously to all the demands put forward by the farmers and gave assurances that action would be taken at the earliest. Following the assurances from the officials, the farmers ended their sit-in protest.

Meanwhile, to prevent any untoward incident during the demonstration, a heavy police force remained deployed at the location under the supervision of Fursatganj police station in-charge Nand Hausila Yadav.
