UP government reshuffles nine IPS officers, removes controversial Meerut police chief

The Uttar Pradesh government has carried out a major police administrative reshuffle, transferring nine IPS officers across multiple districts in a move aimed at strengthening law and order. The most significant development in this overhaul is the removal of Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey, who has been attached to headquarters following recent controversies in the district. The reshuffle has brought new leadership to several sensitive districts. IPS officer B.B.G.T.S. Murthy, a 2015 batch officer previously commanding the 35th battalion of PAC, has been appointed as the new SP of Meerut, one of western Uttar Pradesh's most sensitive districts. IPS officer Charu Nigam, who was serving as SP Sultanpur, has been moved to a different role as SP 112 in Lucknow, shifting her responsibilities from district command to the state's emergency police response system.

Vineet Jaiswal, who was earlier posted in Gonda, takes charge as the new SP of Sultanpur. IPS officer Abhishek, also from the 2015 batch and previously posted in Bijnor, has been appointed SP Gonda. Other key postings include Vikas Kumar as SP Jhansi, K.K. Bishnoi as SP Bijnor, Vikas Tripathi in the sensitive district of Sambhal, and Martand Prakash Singh as SP Balrampur, a district bordering Nepal.

The transfers span districts from Meerut to Sultanpur, covering both western UP and the Nepal border region. Officials say the new officers will face immediate challenges in crime control, maintaining law and order, and improving police-public relations in their respective jurisdictions. The government's decision to reshuffle command in multiple districts simultaneously indicates a focused effort to recalibrate policing strategies and accountability mechanisms across the state.
