University students pledge commitment to net zero emissions and sustainable living

The Department of Environmental Science at Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, Aligarh, organized an awareness program to mark Net Zero Emission Day, bringing together undergraduate and postgraduate students in a collective commitment toward a sustainable future.

B.Sc. and M.Sc. Environmental Science students participated enthusiastically in the program, expressing their views on environmental conservation and sustainable development through slogans and essays. The event served as a platform for young minds to articulate their understanding of climate responsibilities and the path toward carbon neutrality.

Dr. Mohit Sharma addressed the students on crucial subjects including net zero emissions, climate change, carbon footprint reduction, energy conservation, renewable energy and sustainable development. His session provided students with comprehensive information on the scientific and practical aspects of achieving emission targets.

Dr. Farah Akram highlighted the role of students in environmental conservation, explaining that small behavioral changes in daily life can make a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. She emphasized the power of individual action in addressing larger environmental challenges.

Students conveyed messages about low-carbon lifestyles, energy conservation and the protection of natural resources through their slogans and essays. On this occasion, they also took a pledge to save energy, promote public transport and clean energy, undertake tree plantation and conserve natural resources.

The program aimed to make the younger generation aware of climate change and environmental challenges while inspiring them to adopt a sustainable and environment-friendly lifestyle. The department stated that effective progress toward the net zero target requires active participation from students, youth and society alongside government efforts. The event underscored the university's commitment to preparing environmentally conscious citizens who understand their role in building a greener tomorrow.
