University of Hyderabad Achieves QS World Ranking in 851-900 Band

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked in the 851–900 band in the QS World University Rankings 2027, released on Thursday by Quacquarelli Symonds. This year’s edition evaluated 1,504 institutions from over 100 locations, with 98 new entrants joining the list. UoH’s placement comes as India achieves its strongest performance to date, with 52 institutions featured in the rankings—up from just 14 a decade ago—making it the fifth most-represented country globally, behind the United States, Britain, China, and Germany.

Leading the Indian contingent was IIT Delhi, which climbed to 118th position, the highest-ever rank for an Indian university. Several other Indian institutions also achieved record-high rankings. Within this broader national success, UoH demonstrated consistent performance in research-related metrics. The university scored 48.1 in citations per faculty, 53.4 in sustainability, and an impressive 98.1 for the percentage of faculty holding PhDs. It also earned a score of 17.1 for academic reputation.

However, UoH, like many Indian institutions, lagged in internationalization metrics, with a low international faculty ratio of 1.8 and an international student ratio of 2.4. These figures reflect a broader challenge highlighted by the ranking system for Indian universities.

Commenting on the rankings, UoH Vice-Chancellor J. Anuradha stated that the university views rankings as a reflection of its core academic values rather than a primary goal. She emphasized plans to expand international research collaborations and improve faculty-student ratios.

With support from its Institution of Eminence funding, UoH is focused on advancing high-impact research, increasing international patent filings, and fostering a more globally diverse academic community.
