Two injured in head-on van-tractor collision on dark forest road in Shravasti

Two people were seriously injured after an Omni van collided head-on with a tractor-trolley on the Sirsiya-Bhinga road in the Bhinga forest area of Shravasti district. According to sources, the accident occurred when the van's headlights dimmed in the middle of the forest stretch and the tractor-trolley ahead was not equipped with reflectors. The van driver lost control and rammed straight into the vehicle from behind. The impact was so severe that both occupants of the van sustained critical injuries.

The situation was worsened by the absence of mobile network coverage in the forest area, which prevented timely contact with ambulance services. Police personnel who were on duty along with local passersby displayed quick thinking and immediately rushed both injured persons to the district hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The recurring accidents on this dark and hazardous forest route have prompted local residents to raise several urgent demands. They have called for making reflectors mandatory on all vehicles plying on this stretch and marking sensitive spots with 'Accident Zone' boards to alert drivers. Residents have also demanded improved mobile network connectivity in the forest area to handle emergency situations more effectively.

Additional demands include regular police patrolling and monitoring to prevent accidents on the route, and installation of street lights along the forest road to tackle the darkness problem. Locals believe these measures are essential to ensure safe travel for commuters who have no option but to use this perilous route regularly. The administration has yet to respond to these safety concerns raised by the community.
