Guwahati: The Guwahati police commissionerate has unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan for the upcoming Ambubachi Mahayog, scheduled to take place from June 22 to 26. The measures aim to handle the influx of devotees, expected to reach around eight lakh, including international pilgrims, visiting the Kamakhya temple during the five-day event. The arrangements are designed to ensure smooth movement, prevent traffic bottlenecks, and maintain access for emergency services.
Residents and travelers have been urged to plan their journeys in advance as access to the temple precinct will be strictly regulated during this period. Private vehicles will not be allowed beyond designated points near the foothills of the Nilachal Hills. Only authorized vehicles and those with special passes issued by the district administration will be permitted entry towards the shrine area.
Air passengers traveling to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport have been advised to use NH-27 to avoid congestion. Dedicated parking zones and drop-off points have been identified to ease traffic around Kamakhya and nearby areas.
Special arrangements are also in place to manage the movement of pilgrims arriving at Kamakhya railway station, along with transport facilities for officials on mela duty. Additionally, roadside parking has been prohibited on several stretches in Kamakhya, Pandu, Bharalumukh, and Maligaon.
