Three MBBS students selected for prestigious ICMR research programme

Three MBBS students from Maharaja Suheldev State Medical College in Bahraich have brought laurels to the institution by securing selection in the Indian Council of Medical Research's prestigious Short-Term Studentship programme. The selected students are Shivam Sikrwar from the 2024 MBBS batch, and Ayan Akhtar and Jahnavi Trivedi from the 2025 MBBS batch. The achievement comes after intense competition among medical students from across the country.

College Principal Dr. Sanjay Khatri expressed pride in the accomplishment, stating that selection in the ICMR-STS programme is a moment of honor for the students. He explained that the programme will provide them with practical experience in biomedical research under the guidance of top scientists and senior faculty members during the early phase of their MBBS education. The national certificate and stipend received upon project completion will not only strengthen their profiles but also open new doors for postgraduate admissions, research publications in medical journals, and global career opportunities.

Dr. Khatri emphasized that the college's objective is to promote clinical research that directly benefits public health and society. Dr. Nipendra Singh, Head of the Community Medicine Department, described the national initiative as an excellent medium for developing scientific thinking and research culture among undergraduate medical students. The selected students will complete their research work under the direct supervision of senior faculty members at the institution and submit their reports to ICMR.
