Tamil Nadu reconstitutes TNRERA, appointing retired IAS officer K. Phanindra Reddy as chairperson along with four new members.
The Tamil Nadu government has reconstituted the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) and appointed retired IAS officer K. Phanindra Reddy as its chairperson.
A government order issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department names retired IAS officers Reeta Harish Thakkar and Mythili K. Rajendran, retired district judge S. Kirubaharan Mathuram and retired engineer-in-chief K. P. Sathyamurthy as members of the authority.
The appointments bring a new composition to the statutory body established under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
Earlier appointments
Mr. Reddy had earlier been appointed chairperson of TNRERA, while retired district judge A. Nazir Ahmed and Ms. Thakkar had also been appointed as members.
Those appointments were for six months or until the State government reconstituted the authority.
The State government exercised the superseding powers conferred under Section 82 of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, for the reconstitution.
The latest appointments were made following the recommendations of the selection committee constituted for the purpose.
Resignations preceded reconstitution
The reconstitution followed the resignations of retired IAS officer Shiv Das Meena, who had served as TNRERA chairperson since August 18, 2024, and members retired IAS officer L. Subramanian, D. Jagannathan, advocate M. Krishnamoorthy and Sukumar Chittibabu.
Mr. Chittibabu was a former Chief Revenue Officer of the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The members resigned following the change of regime in the State.
With the new appointments, the authority has a chairperson and members named through the selection committee process under the framework of the 2016 law.
