At 60, Suhasini Mulay Found Love on Facebook and Married Within 75 Days: A Story Straight Out of a Movie

Suhasini Mulay, the veteran actress known for her role as Aamir Khan's mother in the iconic film *Lagaan*, has a love story that feels straight out of a Bollywood script. What makes it even more intriguing is that she found her soulmate on Facebook. At the age of 60, she embarked on a new chapter of her life by getting married.

While many view their 60s as a time to unwind and relax, Suhasini chose to rewrite her story. Her decision to remarry at this stage of life might have raised eyebrows, but it also showcased her courage to embrace life anew.

Fifteen years ago, Suhasini tied the knot with Dr. Atul Gurtu, a physicist, after a whirlwind romance that began on Facebook. Interestingly, Suhasini had joined the platform on a co-star's suggestion to explore work opportunities. However, fate had other plans. While scrolling through Facebook, she came across Atul's profile under the "People You May Know" section. Curious about his profession as a physicist, she initiated a conversation by asking him about his work. This simple message marked the beginning of their connection.

Their conversations gradually deepened, moving from Facebook messages to emails. Atul, who was working on a project in Switzerland at the time, eventually hinted at his desire for a life partner. Though he never explicitly proposed, Suhasini picked up on his intentions and found herself amused by the idea. Reflecting on it later, she admitted she had been skeptical, thinking, "If I hadn't found the right person in 60 years, how could it happen now?"

Encouraged by a friend who advised her to keep an open mind, Suhasini cautiously continued her interactions with Atul. She ensured she verified his identity, cross-checking his details on the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) website, where he worked. Once satisfied, she agreed to meet him in person. Their first meeting took place the day after Diwali in November 2010, and they instantly clicked.

The connection was so strong that the couple decided not to delay. On January 16, 2011, just 75 days after their first meeting, they got married in a court ceremony. Suhasini's mother was delighted with her choice, calling Atul a "wise man."

Now 75 years old, Suhasini looks back fondly on her decision. Her marriage to Atul has stood the test of time, and the couple remains happily together after 15 years. Her story is a testament to the idea that love can find you at any age, often when you least expect it.
