In a 2023 interaction with Radio Nasha, the actress recounted a disagreement over a costume that tested her resolve and left a lasting impression on her.

The incident occurred during the shoot of a scene where Waheeda's character, Lajwanti, was required to change clothes after getting drenched. The costume chosen for the sequence made her uncomfortable as she felt it was unnecessarily revealing. Instead of wearing the outfit provided, she arrived on set in an alternative costume that aligned with her comfort and the character's personality.

Her decision, however, did not sit well with the director, who reacted angrily. Waheeda recalled him saying, "This is your second or third movie, and it will be your last one because you have too many conditions," before abruptly calling off the shoot for the day.

The tense situation caught the attention of her co-star, the legendary Dev Anand, who stepped in to support her. Waheeda shared that Dev Anand not only understood her concerns but also backed her stance. He argued that the proposed costume was inappropriate for her character, a shy girl named Lajwanti, and told the director, "What she is saying is absolutely right. You got angry for no reason."

Waheeda described Dev Anand's intervention as a major relief, saying, "Dev was sweet. He took my side." His support strengthened her trust in him, and she felt reassured knowing she could rely on him in challenging moments. "I was so happy that after that day, I felt like whenever there would be a problem, I would go to Dev and he would sort it out," she added.
