Six-year-old girl sexually assaulted in Shravasti, accused arrested

A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Shravasti district after being lured with the promise of a cold drink, police confirmed on Monday. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody following a complaint filed by the victim's grandmother.

The Bhinga police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was apprehended while attempting to flee and was caught near Banghusra mode in Nanakne area, according to police sources.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Paswan confirmed the incident, stating that the complainant, the victim's grandmother, had submitted a written complaint alleging that her minor granddaughter had been sexually assaulted. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and traced the suspect who was allegedly trying to escape from the area.

The incident has once again brought attention to the safety of children in the region. POCSO Act provisions specifically address crimes against minors and provide for stringent punishment for offenders. The case is being investigated by local police, and further legal proceedings are underway. The victim has been provided necessary medical attention and support as per protocol in such cases.
