Shubman Gill's exceptional run of form continued on Wednesday, earning him high praise from cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Gill's latest batting masterclass played a pivotal role in India's emphatic ODI series-clinching victory over Afghanistan in Lucknow. Over the past three weeks, the 26-year-old has been in scintillating touch, accumulating runs across formats and competitions.

Gill's remarkable streak began with a commanding century for Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals. This was followed by his 11th Test hundred in the one-off Test against Afghanistan. In the ongoing ODI series, he scored an unbeaten 85 in a rain-affected match in Dharamsala and then delivered a stunning 154 in Lucknow, helping India post a mammoth total of 402.

In the Lucknow match, Gill shared a game-changing 224-run partnership with Ishan Kishan, who contributed a blistering 125. Their efforts completely swung the match in India's favor.

Speaking on JioStar's 'Cricket Live' show, Gavaskar highlighted how Gill's batting form is positively influencing his captaincy. He explained that when a player is scoring runs, it boosts their confidence in making instinctive decisions, such as adjusting field placements or giving an in-form bowler an additional over.
