Shravasti DM Orders ₹1 Daily Fee, Door-to-Door Garbage Collection in Villages
Strict directions have been issued by the District Magistrate over the cleanliness system in Shravasti.
Strict directions have been issued by the District Magistrate over the cleanliness system in Shravasti. Under the decision, every village will collect a cleanliness fee of 1 rupee per day, while door-to-door garbage collection will also be introduced.
However, the impact of these orders on the ground remains to be seen. This is because, even as the cleanliness campaign that began on 1 October is under way, allegations have emerged that sanitation workers are not reaching several villages.
DM Annapurna Garg issued several important directions regarding cleanliness during a meeting of the District Cleanliness Committee. The instructions cover the implementation of a cleanliness fee of 1 rupee per day in every Gram Panchayat.
The DM also directed that vehicles be purchased for garbage collection and that the regular operation of RRC centres be ensured. Along with this, emphasis was placed on individual toilets, community toilets and solid and liquid waste management.
The campaign began on 1 October, but it is being said that complaints have surfaced from some villages about sanitation workers not reaching them. This has raised questions over the effectiveness of the proposed door-to-door garbage collection system.
The concern is whether door-to-door garbage collection will work effectively after collecting the cleanliness fee when the regular cleaning system itself is still not being fully implemented on the ground in several places.
At present, the Tandwa Mahant, Katra and Dadoura Gram Panchayats have been honoured for carrying out better solid waste management. These gram panchayats were recognised for their work in managing solid waste.
The administration has issued the directions with the aim of strengthening cleanliness arrangements in the villages. The next focus will be on how quickly these instructions become visible in the lanes of the villages and whether the planned system is implemented regularly on the ground.
