At the Shamli Collectorate premises, hundreds of farmers held a sit-in protest on Friday under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Apolitical), raising various demands. The protest was led by Baba Rajendra.

The farmers demanded, among other things, that the price of sugarcane be declared at 500 rupees per quintal. They also sought compensation for damage caused to crops. During the protest, the farmers said the government should announce the sugarcane price at 500 rupees per quintal before the sugar mills start operating. They said this would ensure that farmers receive a fair price for their produce.

The farmers also demanded a survey of crop losses caused by rain and bad weather. They sought appropriate compensation for farmers affected by the damage.

In addition, the farmers called for the resolution of problems related to electricity bills. They also asked the administration to take effective steps to protect crops from stray cattle.

The farmers said that bad weather, electricity-related problems and stray cattle were causing them financial losses. They appealed to the administration to resolve all these problems on a priority basis.
