Schoolchildren in Hamirpur protest for better road access to education

Hamirpur witnessed high drama today as GEZ Alpha, a group of schoolchildren, staged a powerful protest demanding the construction of a proper road to their school. The demonstration took place at the District Collectorate premises, which was turned into a virtual fortress with heavy police deployment.

The protest escalated when the children attempted to enter the District Magistrate’s personal office. However, police personnel stationed in large numbers managed to stop them. This is not the first time GEZ Alpha has raised their voice. The group has held multiple protests earlier, urging authorities to address their concerns.

The core issue revolves around the lack of a proper road leading to the school. During the rainy season, the path becomes muddy and impassable, forcing many children to miss classes. Frustrated by repeated false assurances from the District Magistrate about road construction, the children and local residents decided to intensify their agitation.

The situation has drawn attention to the hardships faced by students in rural areas, where basic infrastructure like roads remains a challenge. The protesters argue that education is being severely impacted due to the apathy of the administration. Despite promises, no concrete action has been taken so far.

The District Collectorate premises, located in the Sadar Kotwali area, continues to witness tension as the protest persists. Local authorities are yet to issue a statement addressing the demands of GEZ Alpha or outlining a plan to resolve the issue.
