A court in Sambhal has sentenced a man and his girlfriend to life imprisonment for throwing acid at an inter-college teacher. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh each on the two convicts and ordered that the entire amount be given to the victim, Bhavna.
The verdict was delivered in the widely discussed acid attack case involving Bhavna, a teacher at an inter college. The Additional Sessions Court’s Special Judge (SC-ST Act), Ragini, pronounced Nishu and his girlfriend Jahnvi guilty and sentenced both of them to life imprisonment. The decision came about 1 year and 20 days after the incident.
The case relates to the Nakhassa police station area. On 23 September 2025, acid was thrown at 27-year-old teacher Bhavna, a resident of Sharifpur, near Kundo pond on the road from Singhpur Sani to Sharifpur. Bhavna teaches at Bihari Lal Inter College in Dehpa village.
At the time of the attack, Bhavna was returning home on her scooter. The acid attack badly burned her face. She was first taken to a local hospital and was later shifted to Delhi for better treatment because of her serious condition.
The police investigation found that Jahnvi had created a fake ID on Facebook in the name of Dr Archana. She used the fake identity to befriend Nishu on social media. The two later entered into a relationship.
The allegation was that Jahnvi had promised to marry Nishu and then provoked him to throw acid at teacher Bhavna. The investigation linked the attack to the relationship that had developed after their contact through the fake social media identity.
After the incident, Nishu fled. On 25 September 2025, he was arrested after he was shot in both legs during a police encounter. Jahnvi was also arrested later.
Assistant District Government Counsel Neetu Rani gave information about the verdict on Tuesday evening at around 6 pm. She said that, on behalf of the prosecution, advocates Masood Ali Farooqui and Faiz Ali Farooqui conducted the case. Evidence and witnesses connected with the role of the accused were presented before the court.
The prosecution placed before the court the evidence related to the roles of Nishu and Jahnvi in the attack. After considering the case, the court held both accused guilty and awarded them life imprisonment. The court separately imposed a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh on each of them and directed that the complete amount be paid to Bhavna.
After the verdict, Bhavna expressed satisfaction and said that she had received justice. She also said that she was grateful to the court.
