Samajwadi Party leader arrested in Raibareli over anti-CM protest posters

Samajwadi Party student wing leader Shubham Lohiya has been arrested and sent to jail in Raibareli after protest posters against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appeared across the city just ahead of his scheduled visit. Police swung into action following the poster campaign and booked Lohiya, who heads the district unit of the Samajwadi Party Chhatra Sabha, for allegedly orchestrating the display of anti-government banners.

The posters, pasted at prominent intersections and public places throughout Raibareli, carried the message: "Chief Minister who gave unemployment to the youth of Raibareli, go back." The slogan directly targeted the CM over joblessness among young people in the district, which is politically significant as a former bastion of the Gandhi family and currently represented in Parliament by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Local authorities and police teams moved quickly once information about the posters reached them. Officers removed the banners from locations across the city and launched an investigation to identify those responsible. The inquiry led to Shubham Lohiya, and following his detention, he was sent to jail after completing legal formalities. A large number of party workers, including Samajwadi Party district president Virendra Yadav, were present during the arrest.

The incident highlights the charged political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh, where the opposition Samajwadi Party has been vocal in its criticism of the Yogi Adityanath government, particularly on issues like employment and development.
