Samajwadi Party fulfills Smriti Irani's unfulfilled sugar promise in Amethi

The Samajwadi Party has distributed sugar at ₹13 per kilogram at its Gauriganj party office in Amethi district ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival, targeting former BJP MP and Union Minister Smriti Irani over an unfulfilled promise. The initiative was led by SP district president Ram Udit Yadav under the PDA banner.

Addressing the gathering during the distribution, Yadav said the Raksha Bandhan festival is approaching and rising sugar prices amid mounting inflation are increasing difficulties for common people. Considering this situation, the Samajwadi Party decided to distribute sugar at ₹13 per kilogram to provide relief to residents.

Taking aim at Smriti Irani, the SP district chief recalled that she had once promised to make sugar available at ₹13 per kilogram if the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government in Amethi. However, that pledge remained unfulfilled throughout her tenure. Yadav emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has now taken the initiative to fulfill that promise by distributing sugar at the same rate Irani had committed to years ago.

The move is being seen as a political statement by the opposition party ahead of the festive season, highlighting the BJP's failure to deliver on its commitments while positioning the SP as a party standing with the people on the issue of inflation. Yadav reiterated that the Samajwadi Party consistently stands with the public on the inflation issue and will continue undertaking such efforts to provide relief to common citizens in the future. The distribution comes at a time when sugar prices have remained elevated across Uttar Pradesh, affecting household budgets particularly during the festival season when demand for sweets and traditional preparations increases significantly.
