The Samajwadi Party has announced a protest in Hathras over 15 public issues and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor through the District Magistrate. The demand letter was submitted under the leadership of Ramnarayan Kake, the party’s former candidate, with party workers seeking the speedy resolution of various problems in the district.

The memorandum raised 15 major issues concerning the area. Samajwadi Party leaders alleged that substandard material was used in the construction of the Kailora Chauraha-Jalesar Road overbridge, built at a cost of about six crore rupees. They claimed that the road began to break just three-four months after the construction was completed.

The party leaders demanded a full investigation into the matter and action against those responsible. They said that responsibility should be fixed after the quality of the construction and the circumstances behind the damage are examined.

Another issue raised in the memorandum was the construction of the Naai Ka Nagla-Bhuteshwar Bagichi road. The leaders said that although about 33 lakh rupees had been sanctioned for the road, construction work had not yet started.

The demand letter also included calls for the construction of the road from Prakash Talkies to Karwla Road and the route from Rajpur Mod to Mitanpur. The Samajwadi Party further demanded that roads under the Public Works Department be made pothole-free.

Issues linked to farmers and electricity supply were also highlighted. The party demanded that farmers be provided with sufficient quantities of fertiliser and DAP. It also sought 18 hours of electricity every day for irrigation and an end to unannounced power cuts in urban areas.

Samajwadi Party leaders said that farmers were facing difficulties because of problems related to electricity and fertiliser. They included improvement in health services at Bagla Hospital and better cleaning arrangements in the city among their demands.

The party also called for effective action against illegal liquor, charas, ganja and betting. Ensuring the safety of traders was another demand mentioned in the memorandum.

The leaders said that the construction of a Transport Nagar should be taken up soon to provide relief from the traffic jams that keep occurring in the city. They placed this demand prominently while seeking action on the wider set of public problems.

Samajwadi Party leaders warned that if these issues connected to public interest were not resolved soon, the party would intensify its agitation and protests over the problems faced by people.

The report is by Shobhit Kumar Sharma from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
