Road accident in Pratapgarh kills three labourers, driver flees scene

A young girl has lost her father after the death toll in a road accident on the Chilbila-Patti route in Pratapgarh's Kandhai police station area climbed to three. The accident took place near Sarai Bhimsen village late night on Wednesday when a speeding pickup vehicle rammed into a tractor carrying labourers. Two labourers had died on the spot in the accident, while seriously injured Amit Yadav succumbed during treatment in Prayagraj. Another injured person, Rajendra Banwasi, is undergoing treatment in Prayagraj.

It was reported that the labourers were returning on the tractor after installing roof lintels in Patti town. Around 12 o'clock on Wednesday night, near Sarai Bhimsen village, the labourers were getting down from the tractor. It was during this time that the speeding pickup struck them. In the accident, Shyamu Banwasi alias Ganne, aged 55, a resident of Manaitapur, and Pawan Banwasi, aged 24, a resident of Saraiya Belhari in the Lambhua area of Sultanpur, died on the spot. Rohit Banwasi, aged 27, Rajendra Banwasi, aged 28, machine operator Vinod Kumar Gupta, aged 30, and helper Amit Yadav, aged 22, were injured. All the injured persons were taken to Medical College Pratapgarh in an ambulance. Rajendra Banwasi and Amit Yadav were referred to Prayagraj in critical condition. Amit Yadav died around 11 o'clock at night during treatment.

After the accident, the pickup driver Ankush, aged 35, fled from the spot abandoning the vehicle. The police have taken the pickup into custody. Divanganj outpost in-charge Kailash Yadav and sub-inspector Subhash Chandra reached the spot with a police team. The police conducted the panchnama of both the deceased and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

Pawan leaves behind a one-year-old daughter. The marriage of Pawan Banwasi, who lost his life in the accident, had taken place about three years ago with Shivani, a resident of Kanpur. He has a one-year-old innocent daughter. It was reported that Pawan had been working as a labourer for about a year while living with his wife and daughter at his in-laws' place in Bhimsen. Shivani is in shock after hearing the news of her husband's death and was repeatedly losing consciousness. After the accident, mourning has spread across the family.
