Religious leaders stage sit-in protest over alleged police misconduct in Amethi

Amethi witnessed a sit-in protest by religious leaders and their supporters who accused the local police of using abusive language and behaving indecently with them during a visit to the police station.

The protest was staged at the Mahaveeran Hanuman temple premises, located in the Bhale Sultan Shaheed Smarak police station area of the district. Mahant Lafradadas Maharaj of the Mahaveeran Hanuman temple was joined by public representatives and members of the sant samaj, the community of religious leaders, who sat on dharna demanding action against the police.

It is being reported that Mahant Lafradadas Maharaj had gone to the police station over a minor dispute involving a person. During that visit, the sant samaj members who accompanied him have also alleged that the police behaved indecently with them and used abusive language.

Angered by the police conduct, the sant samaj escalated their demand and called for the dismissal of the station house officer. The protesters remained firm on their demand for the officer's removal.

Once information about the matter spread, police forces from several police stations in the area reached the spot to monitor the situation and maintain law and order.
