Ratlam police seize ₹73.70 lakh cash from unnumbered car at checkpoint

Police in Ratlam's Namli area on Saturday evening intercepted an unnumbered Creta car and recovered a sack stuffed with cash totaling approximately ₹73.70 lakh. The haul, seized at Panched Fante checkpoint, contained bundles of ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500 denomination notes. The vehicle and the money have been confiscated and taken to Namli police station for further investigation.

According to Ratlam Additional Superintendent of Police, the Namli police station received a tip-off from an informer about an unnumbered car headed toward Namli carrying bundles of currency notes. Acting on the intelligence, the station in-charge set up a checkpoint at Panched Fante and stopped the suspicious Creta car. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered the sack filled with a large quantity of cash. The car and its driver were immediately brought to the police station.

The counting of the seized currency was conducted inside the station in-charge's chamber in the presence of police personnel. Two note-counting machines were borrowed from jewelers in Namli to accurately tally the amount. The meticulous counting process confirmed the sum to be around ₹73 lakh 70 thousand rupees.

The car is reportedly registered in the name of Mizan Khan, said to be a resident of Piploda. Police have detained the driver for questioning. The source and intended destination of such a large cash haul remain under investigation. Authorities are probing whether the money is linked to any illegal activity, hawala transactions, or election-related violations, though no official statement on the motive has been issued yet.

The seizure comes at a time when authorities across the country are on high alert for unaccounted cash movements. Police are continuing their inquiries to trace the origin and purpose of the funds.
