The staging of the killing of Kumbhakarna and Meghanad at the famous Ramleela in Ramnagar left spectators deeply moved. After hearing about the deaths of his brother and son, Ravana was overcome with grief and began lamenting loudly.

On the third day of the Ramleela, Meghanad informed Ravana in his court that Lakshman had regained consciousness and that their army had been defeated. After hearing this, Ravana ordered that his brother Kumbhakarna be woken from his sleep.

Kumbhakarna then advised Ravana to give up his arrogance and seek refuge in Lord Shri Ram. Ravana, however, did not accept his brother’s advice. Kumbhakarna eventually reached the battlefield, where Lord Shri Ram killed him.

Kumbhakarna’s death caused a major setback for Ravana. After this, Ravana sent his son Meghanad to fight in the war. Meghanad tied Lord Shri Ram in the Nagpash. Following a request from Narad Ji, Garuda freed Shri Ram from the Nagpash.

Meghanad later attempted to perform a yajna. Vibhishan informed Shri Ram about the effort. During the battle that followed, Meghanad was killed. When Ravana received the news of his son’s death, he was plunged into mourning and began to grieve.

The Ramleela had begun at Rani Bazaar in the Rajatalab area ahead of Vijayadashami. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shantan Kumar inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp on Saturday. He offered his respects at the feet of Lord Shri Ram and watched the Ramleela while sitting on the ground.

Shantan Kumar said that Shri Ram is Maryada Purushottam. He said society can establish peace and harmony by drawing inspiration from Shri Ram’s personality and ideals.

Meanwhile, the episodes of Sita’s search and the burning of Lanka were staged on the seventh day of the Ramleela at the Central Jail in Shivpur. The programme included episodes involving Lord Shri Ram, Sugriva, Angad and Hanuman Ji.

Sugriva told Shri Ram that he had been hiding at that place because of fear of Bali. After this, Lord Shri Ram killed Bali and made Sugriva the king of Kishkindha and Angad the crown prince.

The Ramleela presented the end of Kumbhakarna and Meghanad, along with the grief of Ravana after the death of his brother and son. Through these episodes, the organisers conveyed the message of truth, dharma, dignity and the end of arrogance.
