Congress national spokesperson and Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee vice-chairman Priyanka Gupta raised the issue of alleged vote theft and appealed to Congress workers and the public to reach New Delhi for Rahul Gandhi’s rally on one November.

Addressing the “Save Democracy-Save Vote Constitution Public Meeting” in Madhya Semri village of the Biswan Assembly constituency in Sitapur, Priyanka Gupta urged people to attend the rally in large numbers. The rally is scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on one November.

Priyanka Gupta said that protecting the country’s democratic values and the people’s right to vote had become the biggest challenge at present. She targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party over allegations of a lack of transparency in the election process and vote theft.

She said people from all sections would have to come together by setting aside their political differences to protect democracy and the Constitution. She appealed to youths, farmers, labourers, women and intellectuals to reach Delhi on one November and help make the rally a success.

During her address, Priyanka Gupta also spoke about the problems faced by the Biswan Assembly constituency. She said the expected work had not been done on basic facilities such as education and health.

She said girls from the area still had to travel outside the constituency to pursue higher education. Because of this, many girls from financially weaker families were being deprived of education, she said.

Priyanka Gupta questioned the policies of the BJP and said there was a difference between what the party said and what it did. She alleged that an attempt had been made to defame Rahul Gandhi by implicating him in false cases.

She also appealed to Congress workers to remain united and strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly election. Her appeal came in the backdrop of the issues raised at the meeting over democracy, voting rights, the election process and the Constitution.

During the programme, Priyanka Gupta honoured Vishambhar Pasi, Amarnath Mehrotra, Abdul Mujeeb Khan, Abdul Karim Khan, Rajan Mishra, Rais Pradhan, Karim and Ramesh Gaur by presenting them with shawls.
