Pratapgarh police arrest wanted man accused of dowry harassment and triple talaq

Pratapgarh police have arrested a wanted accused in a case involving dowry harassment and triple talaq. The arrest was made by Jethwara police station personnel near Laxmiganj crossing, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Pratapgarh as part of a special drive to apprehend wanted criminals. Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Brijnandan Rai and Circle Officer Sadar Manoj Kumar Singh Raghuvanshi oversaw the action. The arrest was made by a police team led by Jethwara station in-charge Narendra Singh, which included woman inspector Akansha Verma, sub-inspector Arun Maurya, and constable Arvind.

The team was conducting routine checks of suspicious persons and vehicles in the area when they received a tip-off from an informer. Acting swiftly on the information, police arrested Samoon, son of Mohammad Faruq alias Munna, aged 35 years, a resident of village Chamroopur Pathan under Jethwara police station jurisdiction. The accused was wanted in connection with case number 269/2026.

A case has been registered against the accused under multiple sections including BNS sections 85, 115(2), 316(2), and 351(2), along with Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The arrest reflects the police department's commitment to addressing crimes against women, particularly those involving dowry harassment and the practice of instant triple talaq, which has been criminalized under Indian law. The accused has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
