Pratapgarh markets buzz with Krishna Janmashtami preparations ahead of midnight celebrations

Preparations for Shri Krishna Janmashtami have gathered pace across Pratapgarh district. The birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna will be celebrated with great fanfare in temples and homes at midnight on 4 September.

Markets from the city to the tehsil level have been stocked with Krishna's costumes, crowns, flutes, swings and worship-decoration items for the festival. Devotees are busy shopping to make the birth celebration of Laddu Gopal special.

Several varieties of attractive costumes for Laddu Gopal are available in the markets. Radha-Krishna dresses, crowns, caps, flutes, garlands, jewellery and other decorative items are proving very popular with devotees.

According to shopkeepers, a considerable amount of Krishna's costumes and decorative materials have been procured from factories in West Bengal and Meerut. With goods available in different designs and sizes, customers are purchasing according to their preferences.

The tradition of offering a swing to Lord Shri Krishna on Janmashtami has driven up demand for swings and cradles of various designs in the market. Shops are stocked with several varieties, from small swings to attractive decorative cradles.

Colourful lights, flowers, frills, curtains and other decorative materials for adorning homes and temples are also selling briskly in the market. Several families have begun preparations to set up special tableaux and cradles for Laddu Gopal at home.

With Janmashtami drawing closer, increased shopping activity in the markets has brought cheer to the faces of shopkeepers as well.
