A pond-cleaning and water-conservation programme was organised in Bhualpur Qila village of the Sadar assembly constituency under the ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’ campaign and the ‘मेरा तालाब, मेरी जिम्मेदारी’ initiative. The programme focused on cleaning the pond and spreading awareness about water conservation and the need for a plastic-free India.

Sadar MLA Rajendra Kumar Maurya attended the programme as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said ponds are an important heritage of rural life and the water system. He said their protection is not the responsibility of the government alone, but a collective responsibility of every person in society.

Maurya said keeping ponds clean strengthens water conservation, groundwater levels and the environmental balance. He also said that protecting ponds is a guarantee of water security for coming generations.

The MLA said plastic waste has become a major challenge for water sources. He said that keeping the ponds, village water bodies and other sources of water in villages free from plastic and waste would contribute not only to water conservation but also to environmental protection.

He appealed to citizens to turn the cleaning and protection of water sources into a campaign based on public participation. According to him, the participation of local people is necessary to keep water bodies clean and ensure their long-term protection.

The programme was led by Greenman Ajay Krantikari, head of the Anti-Plastic Gang and the Paryavaran Sena. Under his leadership, members of the Paryavaran Sena and local villagers cleaned the pond. They removed plastic and other waste that had accumulated there.

The campaign carried a message of public awareness against plastic pollution along with the message of water conservation. Ajay Krantikari said the feeling of ‘मेरा तालाब, मेरी जिम्मेदारी’ must be developed within every citizen.

He said ponds are not merely places where water is collected. They are also important foundations for groundwater conservation, biodiversity and the rural environment. He said water conservation can be made effective only when water sources are kept free from plastic and other forms of pollution.

Krantikari further said that during the climate crisis, water conservation and freedom from plastic pollution are interconnected issues. He said the Paryavaran Sena and the Anti-Plastic Gang would continue to run campaigns through public participation for the protection of water sources and for a plastic-free India.

At the end of the programme, the villagers, volunteers and citizens present were administered an oath for water conservation, environmental protection and the creation of a plastic-free India. The participants pledged to keep the water sources in their village clean, not throw plastic waste in the open and reduce the use of single-use plastic.

The programme conveyed the message that “मेरा तालाब, मेरी जिम्मेदारी” is not merely a pond-cleaning campaign. It is an effort to turn water conservation into a people’s movement through public participation.

ADO Panchayat Sadar Chandra Bhushan Yadav, Gram Pradhan Virendra Pratap Singh, Sanjay Singh, Avinash Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
