Police encounter leaves two cow slaughter suspects injured in Kanpur Dehat

Two suspected cow slaughter accused were injured and a third arrested after a late-night police encounter in the Raniya police station area of Kanpur Dehat district. The three men had been wanted in connection with a cow slaughter incident that occurred on August 25 and had sparked protests by Hindu groups in the area.

The encounter took place when police teams conducting routine checks spotted three men on a scooter who attempted to flee upon seeing the law enforcement personnel. The suspects opened fire at the police team, which retaliated in self-defense. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, two of the accused, identified as Salman and Fazal, were hit in the legs and injured. The third suspect, Irfan, who was riding the scooter, was apprehended at the spot. Police recovered illegal firearms, cartridges, and weapons allegedly used in cow slaughter from the possession of the accused. The injured men have been sent to the district hospital for treatment.

The August 25 cow slaughter incident had created significant tension in the area after remains were discovered at the scene, leading to widespread anger and demonstrations by Hindu organizations. Given the sensitive nature of the case, multiple police units including teams from Raniya, Rura, and Akbarpur police stations, along with the Special Operations Group and surveillance teams, had been actively searching for the suspects.

Circle Officer Akbarpur, Sanjay Singh, confirmed that the police team had cordoned off the area after receiving information about the location of the three wanted accused. He stated that two suspects were injured when police fired in self-defense after the accused shot at them first. All three have been arrested and further legal action is underway.

Police administration has assured that law and order in the area is completely under control and that no one involved in crimes like cow slaughter will be spared.
