PM Modi to Release 23rd Installment of PM-KISAN Scheme on June 20
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20. The event will take place in Tarakeswar, located in West Bengal's Hooghly district. This scheme is one of the largest direct benefit transfer programs globally, providing financial assistance directly to farmers' bank accounts. For this installment, the government will transfer over ₹18,880 crore to the accounts of 9.44 crore farmers.
Notably, this installment will benefit approximately 12 lakh more farmers compared to the previous one. Among the beneficiaries, 2.18 crore women farmers will receive financial support, which is expected to strengthen rural economies and agriculture. The program, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and the West Bengal government, will also connect over one crore farmers nationwide via video conferencing.
Special events will be held at Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutions, agricultural universities, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), markets, and cooperative societies to mark the occasion. The government has emphasized that the PM-KISAN scheme plays a crucial role in boosting farmers' incomes and ensuring economic stability in agriculture. Eligible farmer families receive annual financial assistance directly into their bank accounts under this initiative. Following the release of the 23rd installment, the total disbursed amount under the scheme will surpass ₹4.46 lakh crore.
Launched on February 24, 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme has provided significant financial relief to millions of farmers across India. The previous installment, the 22nd, was released on March 13, 2026, from Guwahati, Assam, with ₹18,640 crore transferred to 9.32 crore farmers, including 2.15 crore women beneficiaries. The government attributes the scheme's transparency to Aadhaar-based verification and digitized land records, which ensure funds reach eligible farmers directly.
West Bengal is set to receive substantial benefits from the 23rd installment, with ₹907.21 crore to be transferred to the accounts of over 45.35 lakh farmers in the state. Since the scheme's implementation in West Bengal, the total assistance provided to the state's farmers will exceed ₹15,055 crore.
The event will witness the presence of several prominent leaders, including West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other state ministers and MPs. Reports from NITI Aayog and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) have highlighted the scheme's success in increasing farmers' incomes and reducing their dependence on moneylenders.
