Neighbours allegedly poison three buffaloes over village dispute in Kanpur

A shocking case of alleged animal poisoning has emerged from Bhawanpur village in Kanpur Dehat district, where three buffaloes belonging to a local cattle herder were allegedly killed with toxic substances by his neighbours over a festering dispute. The victim, Rajkumar son of Bechelal, has lodged a written complaint at Rasulabad police station demanding strict action and justice against the accused.

According to the complaint filed by Rajkumar, a resident of Bhawanpur under Nand Khurd post office, three buffaloes were tied in the courtyard of his house on the evening of 27 August at around 6:30 pm. He has alleged that his neighbours Ramakant son of Shalikram and his son Satyendra secretly mixed a poisonous substance into the feeding trough of the buffaloes. Within minutes of consuming the contaminated feed, all three animals died in agony.

The victim has stated that the accused father-son duo had been hurling abuses at him for several days and repeatedly threatening to destroy his household and drive him out of the village. Rajkumar, who describes himself as a poor labourer, says that buffalo rearing was his family's primary source of livelihood. The death of all three buffaloes has plunged his family into a deep survival crisis, leaving them without any means to earn their daily bread.

Rajkumar has urged the Rasulabad station in-charge to register an FIR and initiate legal proceedings against the accused. Police officials have confirmed receiving the complaint and said investigations into the matter are currently underway. The case highlights the vulnerability of small-scale animal herders whose entire livelihoods depend on livestock, and how personal feuds can devastate such families economically.
