State Anti-Drug Addiction Board Coordinator and Adviser Naresh Thakur conducted a surprise inspection of the drug de-addiction centre located at Bhager in Bilaspur district’s Ghumarwin subdivision, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday. The inspection focused on reviewing the facilities and arrangements available at the centre and assessing whether patients undergoing treatment were receiving proper care.
Naresh Thakur carried out the inspection along with State CID in-charge Kapil and his team. During the visit, various files, records and other necessary documents kept at the centre were examined. The inspection also covered the facilities being provided to the patients undergoing treatment.
The team closely reviewed cleanliness at the centre, the food arrangements, the bathrooms and the places where the patients were staying. The condition of the different arrangements was examined in detail so that the facilities available to the patients could be assessed properly.
The arrangements at the centre were found to be generally satisfactory during the inspection. However, some shortcomings also came to light. Naresh Thakur directed the concerned management to remove these deficiencies at the earliest. He said that corrective steps were necessary to ensure better facilities for the patients undergoing treatment at the centre.
Naresh Thakur said that the State Anti-Drug Addiction Board would conduct surprise inspections of various drug de-addiction centres across Himachal Pradesh. These inspections will include a review of the facilities available at the centres, cleanliness, food arrangements, accommodation for patients and necessary documents.
The inspections will also assess compliance with the prescribed standards. In addition, a detailed report is being prepared on the process for admission and applications at the centres, along with other necessary aspects related to their functioning.
The purpose of these inspections is to improve the working of the centres and ensure that patients undergoing treatment receive better facilities. The arrangements at the centres will be assessed through the statewide inspections, and necessary improvements will be made wherever required.
Naresh Thakur also said that treatment alone was not enough to deal with the problem of drug addiction. Public awareness was equally important. In accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, awareness camps are being organised across the state in schools, panchayats and colleges to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.
Through these camps, young people and the general public are being encouraged to stay away from drugs, adopt a healthy lifestyle and take an active part in building a drug-free society. The awareness programmes are part of the efforts to inform people about the harmful effects of drug use and promote participation in the fight against addiction.
Naresh Thakur said that people affected by drug addiction must be provided proper treatment and counselling. He added that it was also extremely important to reconnect them with the mainstream of society.
For this, he said, drug de-addiction centres must ensure proper care for patients, a better environment and the necessary facilities. The centres need arrangements that support both treatment and rehabilitation for people undergoing care.
He said the surprise inspections being conducted across Himachal Pradesh would help assess the arrangements at the centres and bring about the required improvements. The aim is to ensure that patients receive quality treatment and rehabilitation facilities.
Naresh Thakur further said that the participation of society was also necessary in the fight against drugs, along with government efforts. Public awareness, better treatment and effective rehabilitation can help control the problem of drug addiction and support effective efforts towards achieving the goal of a drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
