Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav launched the PM e-bus service and the Ujjain Darshan service from Shri Mahakal Lok in Ujjain on 27 September, giving a push to what the government described as smooth, safe and modern public transport in the state. The launch took place on Sunday at the Annakshetra Parking complex of Shri Mahakal Lok.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav flagged off the buses from Shakti Path, Mahakal Lok. Vedpathi batuks recited Vedic mantras at the event, and damru playing was also performed. The Chief Minister also travelled in the bus himself after the launch.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said, “मैं भगवान श्री महाकालेश्वर को प्रणाम करता हूं । आज उनकी नगरी में एक अद्भुत अलग प्रकार का दिन है। एक के बाद एक शहर को रोज एक नई सौगात मिल रही है । रोज नए प्रकार के विकास के कीर्तिमान बन रहे हैं ।”
Referring to the return of organised public bus transport, he said that 21 years ago, buses of the State Transport Corporation used to operate, but for some reason public transport buses had to be stopped. He said the state government had now filled that gap.

According to the information shared at the launch, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav has started the Chief Minister Sugam Parivahan Seva and the e-bus service with the objective of making travel easier for the people of the state. In Ujjain, this service will provide devotees, tourists and city residents access to major religious and sightseeing places under one system.
The Ujjain Darshan service will operate on a fixed route beginning from Meghdoot Van Parking. From there, the route will cover Mahakal Lok, Harsiddhi Temple, Kshipra River, Rinmukteshwar Mahadev, Bhartrihari Cave, Garh Kalika Mata Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple, Siddhavat Temple, Angareshwar Temple, Mangalnath Temple, Sandipani Ashram, Bhukhi Mata Temple, Chintaman Ganesh Temple, Ashta Vinayak Temple, Shani Navgrah Temple, ISKCON Temple, the bus stand and Ujjain Railway Station, before returning to Meghdoot Van Parking.
The fare for the Ujjain Darshan service will be ₹200 only. Passengers will be able to make payment through UPI. The buses will be fully zero-emission, they will not cause pollution, and they will be electrically charged.
The route has been designed to connect Ujjain’s major temples and ancient sites in one chain. The total length of the Ujjain Darshan route is 27.01 kilometres.
Under the bus operation arrangement, passengers will be able to get down at the designated stop for a temple or sightseeing place and, after completing their visit, continue their journey from the same stop in the next available Ujjain Darshan bus. During the specified validity period, passengers will be able to board and get off at different stops on the route on the basis of the same ticket.
Designated bus stops will be made near all major temples and sightseeing places. To ensure that passengers do not have to wait for a long time, buses will be operated at regular intervals. Adequate time will be available at each major site for darshan and visits.
The service will start from Meghdoot Van Parking and, while connecting major religious places, will provide connectivity up to Ujjain Railway Station. This is aimed at making it easier for devotees and tourists coming from outside to reach the main darshan places through a single service.
The buses will have modern facilities, including live CCTV, GPS-based live tracking, digital ticketing and UPI/digital payment options. For the safety and convenience of passengers, real-time monitoring of the buses will be done.
A digital assistant-cum-Ujjain Darshan guide will also be available in the bus. The guide will provide necessary information related to major temples, sightseeing places, the route and darshan.
The route covers several major places of religious importance and belief. Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is the presiding deity site of Ujjain. The Bhasma Aarti here is especially famous.
Mahakal Lok presents stories from the Shiva Purana and forms of Shiva through statues, pillars and murals. Harsiddhi Mata is an ancient Shakti site of Ujjain. There is a belief around bathing and worship at the sacred ghats of the Kshipra River. At Rinmukteshwar Mahadev, the belief is linked to freedom from different types of debts through worship.
Bhartrihari Caves are associated with the penance of King Bhartrihari and the spiritual tradition of the Nath sect. Garh Kalika Temple’s belief is connected with the great poet Kalidas. Kal Bhairav is considered the guardian deity of Ujjain. Siddhavat is a special pilgrimage site for ancestral rituals.
Angareshwar and Mangalnath temples are associated with beliefs related to planet Mars. Sandipani Ashram is the place where, according to belief, Lord Shri Krishna, Balram and Sudama received education. Bhukhi Mata, Chintaman Ganesh, Ashta Vinayak, Shani Navgrah and ISKCON Temple are also important centres on this route.
Apart from the Ujjain Darshan service, a wider city bus route arrangement has also been laid out under Sugam Parivahan in Ujjain city. A total of 12 routes have been determined. These include Tapobhumi to Pan Vihar, Ujjain Railway Station to Kaliyadeh Palace, Kanipura to Abhilasha Colony, Dewas Gate to Tapobhumi, Dewas Gate to Tajpur, Dewas Gate to the new RTO office, Mahakal Chauraha to Abhilasha Colony, Dewas Gate to Nanakheda, Avantika University to Nanakheda, Dewas Gate to Murlipura, Tapobhumi to Nazarapur and the Ujjain Darshan route.
Through these routes, major residential, commercial, educational and religious areas of the city have been connected with bus service.
The service is expected to provide devotees a convenient, affordable and safe darshan journey while reducing dependence on expensive private transport. In view of the preparations for Simhastha-2028, this system of smooth movement in Ujjain has been described as an important step for both city residents and devotees coming from India and abroad.
