Meerut criminal arrested after shootout with Delhi Police near Akshardham flyover

A wanted criminal from Meerut was apprehended by Delhi Police's Crime Branch after an exchange of fire near the Akshardham flyover in East Delhi late last night. The encounter marks yet another successful operation by the special unit in the capital's ongoing crackdown on inter-state criminals operating in the city.

According to initial reports, the Crime Branch team had received specific intelligence about the movements of the suspect in the area. When officers attempted to intercept him near the Akshardham flyover, the accused opened fire at the police personnel, prompting retaliatory firing. The suspect was injured in the gunfight and subsequently overpowered by the Crime Branch team. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is currently under police custody.

Police sources indicate that the arrested individual is a known offender from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and was wanted in connection with several criminal cases. The Crime Branch had been tracking his activities for some time before cornering him in East Delhi. The Akshardham area, a busy transit zone connecting Delhi with Noida and Ghaziabad, has occasionally witnessed criminal activity due to its strategic location.

Authorities have recovered a firearm from the accused and are investigating whether he had any local accomplices or was planning further criminal operations in the capital. The Crime Branch is also coordinating with Uttar Pradesh Police to verify the details of pending cases against the suspect.

Senior officers have confirmed that no police personnel were injured during the encounter. Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the accused's criminal network and activities in Delhi and neighboring regions.
