Man arrested for sexually assaulting minor and threatening to share intimate images online

The Kanpur Dehat police have arrested a 21-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl and threatening to make her photographs and videos viral on social media after she refused to communicate with him on Instagram.

The arrest was made under a special drive being conducted in the district for crime control and the apprehension of wanted criminals. Rasulabad police station achieved a major breakthrough when its team nabbed the wanted accused involved in the rape of a minor girl and threatening to make photos and videos viral.

The victim's father had lodged a complaint at Rasulabad police station on 8 September 2026. The allegation was that a youth named Taj Mohammad was forcibly pressuring his daughter to talk to him on Instagram. When the girl refused, the accused was threatening to make her photos and videos viral on social media.

Police registered the case on the basis of the complaint. Subsequently, based on the victim's statement recorded under sections 180 and 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and evidence collection, serious sections of rape under section 64(2)D of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 5(J) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act were added to the case.

On 15 September 2026, the Rasulabad police team acted on accurate information received from an informer and nabbed the accused Taj Mohammad, aged 21 years, a resident of village Daheli, from near Malkhanpur culvert. After completing the legal process, police produced the accused before the honorable court.

The police team that carried out the arrest included Additional Inspector Rajpal Singh, Constable Vinod Puri and Recruit Constable Rohit Kumar. The case also involves provisions of the Information Technology Act along with POCSO Act charges.
