Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav performed the traditional worship of weapons at a Vijayadashami programme organised at the Indore Police Lines. Amid the chanting of Vedic mantras, he worshipped traditional weapons, including a sword and spear, as well as modern firearms, including an AK-47 and other arms. He also worshipped Goddess Kalka and participated in the ceremony organised to honour the traditions of valour, bravery and national defence.

Addressing the programme in Indore on 20 October 2026, Dr. Yadav said that weapon worship is a symbol of Indian Sanatan culture, valour, strength and a sense of duty. He said Indian culture teaches people to live in harmony with nature. According to the Chief Minister, carrying weapons is not merely a means of displaying power. It is also a responsibility to remove the suffering of society, protect citizens and maintain order.

During the programme, Dr. Yadav worshipped a police vehicle and horses and also inspected the armoury. He performed Kanya Pad Pujan as part of the ceremony. A women police contingent presented him with a guard of honour. The event brought together religious faith, the tradition of valour and a commitment to public safety.

Speaking about the significance of Vijayadashami, the Chief Minister said the festival conveys the message of the victory of good over evil through Lord Shri Ram’s killing of Ravana. It also conveys the strength of women through Goddess Durga’s killing of Mahishasura. He said the Sanatan culture enriched by the traditions of Lord Shri Ram and Lord Shri Krishna gives a distinct identity to Indian values and lifestyle.

Dr. Yadav said that in Indian tradition, weapons are marked with a tilak and worshipped with faith and purity. He said this practice reflects respect for weapons and also encourages their responsible use. He added that India’s glorious history had been built through the sacrifice, martyrdom and dedication of brave people towards the nation. The brave sons of the country had given their lives to protect the honour and dignity of Bharat Mata.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is drawing inspiration from its glorious past and moving towards a golden future. He also extended Vijayadashami greetings to everyone and said that the festival of the victory of truth over falsehood and righteousness over unrighteousness should bring happiness, prosperity and well-being into everyone’s life.

Dr. Yadav said the Madhya Pradesh government had developed a tradition of actively participating in all festivals in order to encourage social values and cultural traditions. He said weapon worship was being organised at the government level by police forces across the state on the occasion. He added that administration requires encouragement along with discipline. While punishment helps maintain order, encouragement and honour raise the morale of those who perform their duties.

The Chief Minister praised the innovations being carried out in Indore to strengthen law and order. He said the app launched at the programme would help make communication between citizens and the police simpler, faster and more transparent. Through the app, information related to the duties of police personnel, the concerned police stations and officers, contact facilities and essential police services would be available on a single platform.

Dr. Yadav said that, considering the usefulness of the app, the government would also consider implementing it across the state in the future. He praised the initiative to provide 51 motorcycles for traffic management, road safety and law-and-order duties. He said these resources had been arranged through Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, funds. This, he said, was a positive effort to strengthen citizen safety without placing an additional financial burden on the government.

The Chief Minister also announced measures related to recruitment and staffing. He said the state government was committed to strengthening human resources and arrangements in the police department as well as in all other departments. A decision had been taken to recruit for 18,500 posts in the police department, he said.

Dr. Yadav said work would also be undertaken to fill vacant posts over the next two years. The process of moving forward with appointments to a total of 85 thousand posts in various departments across the state was also under way, he said.

The Chief Minister said the coming year would be observed as the Year of Youth. He referred to the plan to conduct special examinations of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission in January-February next year. He also said that attention was being given to training, modern resources, new investigation methods, forensic facilities and the effective implementation of the amended criminal laws in order to improve the efficiency of the police force.

Dr. Yadav said police bands would be developed in the police forces of the state. He said national festivals such as 26 January and 15 August were occasions of pride and enthusiasm for the government and administration. An initiative was being taken to develop a police band in every district and police force of the state to enhance the dignity of parades held on these occasions.

The Chief Minister also spoke about recruitment for the police bands and said that 750 posts would be filled for this purpose. The announcement was linked to the effort to strengthen the arrangements for national festivals and improve the presentation of police parades.

Dr. Yadav paid tribute to the dedication of police personnel, saying that they remained ready to protect citizens around the clock while staying away from their families. He said their dedication, efficiency and sense of duty deserved special respect. He also said that the families of police personnel made an important contribution to the fulfilment of their responsibilities and that the government was working with sensitivity for their welfare.

He praised the participation of women police personnel in the guard of honour as an innovation. The Chief Minister said ability and efficiency were not limited to any one section. Daughters, he said, could also perform every responsibility with complete skill and capability. Such innovations bring positive change in society and strengthen the idea of equal opportunities, he said.

Dr. Yadav congratulated the Indore administration and police department for their better arrangements and innovations. He also said the Vijayadashami festival should bring happiness, prosperity and well-being to all people.

The Chief Minister formally launched the Police Setu app during the programme. Through the app, citizens would be able to obtain information about the police station and duty officers concerned on the basis of their location. They would also be able to contact them directly.

The programme also marked the flagging off of 51 vehicles made available to the Indore Police by the Honda India Foundation under the Ideal Traffic Safe City project. Dr. Yadav flagged off the vehicles. He also released a poster prepared by the Honda India Foundation for public awareness related to road safety.

A short film was screened during the event on the work carried out by the Indore Police to create public awareness about de-addiction. The film presented the police department’s work in the area of public awareness against substance abuse.

Police Commissioner Shri Santosh Kumar Singh delivered the welcome address at the Vijayadashami weapon-worship programme. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Yadav and said that 1721 police personnel had been promoted in the Indore Police Commissionerate. Through the mediation centre, disputes involving an amount of 7 crore 82 lakh rupees had been resolved through mutual agreement between the concerned parties, Shri Singh said. He also said that more than 17 thousand citizens had become aware of cybercrimes through the Safe Click chatbot.

Shri Singh said the District Drone Unit, equipped with 19 drones, was being used effectively during major events, for crowd management and for monitoring law-and-order arrangements. The unit was also being used as part of the police department’s technology-based arrangements.

For the safety of women during Navratri, 15 Shakti Mobile units had been deployed, he said. These units remained active from late night until 4 am and helped women and girls return home safely. The Police Commissioner described the deployment as part of the arrangements made for women’s security during the festival period.

He also said that, for making Indore’s prestigious Anant Chaturdashi procession tradition more organised and grand, the Akhada Gaurav Samman award had been started for the first time.
