Leaked report exposes corruption in Shravasti's food scheme investigation

A probe into alleged corruption in Shravasti’s hot cooked food scheme has sparked fresh controversy after the investigation report was leaked to the media. The report, which highlights serious irregularities, seems to validate accusations made by Manoj Pathak, the state vice president of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Pathak had earlier filed a complaint demanding a fair investigation into the scheme, but authorities reportedly ignored the matter until media coverage forced action. Following public outcry, then-in-charge minister Nitin Agarwal directed the district magistrate, Ashwani Pandey, to form an inquiry team and submit a report. After two months of investigation, the report was handed to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), but no action has been taken so far. Moreover, the report was allegedly withheld from the complainant before its recent leak.

The leaked findings reveal glaring discrepancies in the scheme’s operations. For the financial year 2025-26, only ₹35.63 lakh was spent out of the allocated ₹87.66 lakh, but investigators were not provided a complete account of the expenditure or remaining funds. Additionally, the report highlights negligence in paying cooks, with wages unpaid as of May 15, 2026. Questions also surround the distribution of food grains meant for children’s meals, with no clarity on the whereabouts of thousands of tons of ration.

The revelations have raised serious concerns about systemic failures and accountability. Critics are questioning why no action has been taken against officials allegedly involved in the mismanagement. Pathak has also alleged a larger scam worth crores, demanding a deeper probe into the matter.

As the leaked report continues to fuel public outrage, the focus now shifts to whether authorities will act decisively or if the investigation will remain confined to paperwork. The controversy underscores the urgent need for transparency and accountability in welfare schemes meant for vulnerable sections of society.
